Kosteckyj & Parhar was founded by Walter Kosteckyj and Sonny S. Parhar in 2010 to serve the legal needs of British Columbians.  The law firm is an association of law corporations managed and directed by its founders with offices and meeting locations in downtown Vancouver, Surrey, and Vancouver Island.

About Walter Kosteckyj

Before attending law school, Walter became a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He distinguished himself in training by achieving the highest graduating marks in both physical and academic subjects. He was also selected as valedictorian of his graduating troop. Walter subsequently worked as an operational policeman and got involved in all aspects of police work. This investigative background has been invaluable to helping prepare and present his client’s cases.

Thereafter, Walter attended law school at the University of Saskatchewan where he also distinguished himself, particularly in the subjects of Evidence, Contracts and Advocacy. He was chosen to represent the University of Saskatchewan at the Gale Cup Moot, which is the premier advocacy competition for law schools in Canada. He was once again chosen as class valedictorian by his classmates.

Upon graduation Walter was one of two students recommended for the position of law clerk to the Chief Justice of Saskatchewan. Walter was selected by the Chief Justice for the position.

Walter has handled cases at every level of court in British Columbia. He has also handled cases at the Queen’s Bench and Appeals levels in Saskatchewan, as well as handling cases in Ontario and Alberta.

He has handled numerous high profile precedent setting cases. Although he is best known for his work in the Case of Robert Dziekanski, he is also well known for his work in numerous other cases including Personal Injury and Criminal.

 Although Walter has a strong support staff, he handles all important aspects of a client’s case personally. At Kosteckyj & Parhar it is the firm philosophy that a client’s best interests come first.

About Sonny S. Parhar LL.B., B.Com

Sonny Parhar is a graduate of the Sauder School of business at the University of British Columbia. After obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree and working briefly in commercial real estate appraisal he moved to Ontario to study law at the University of Windsor where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. He then went on to work for McDonald & Hayden, a downtown Toronto Bay street law firm where he completed his articles and was called to the bar in Ontario and became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Shortly thereafter, Sonny became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia. He practiced law as an associate with the established Vancouver law firm of Thompson & Elliott in the areas of commercial litigation, real estate, personal injury and family law for 10 years.

In 2010, Sonny incorporated Parhar Law Corporation and founded the law firm of Kosteckyj & Parhar with his associate, Walter Kosteckyj.  Sonny’s main areas of practice include commercial litigation, family law and personal injury claims.

Sonny has been a long time supporter and member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia and is currently on the Board of Governors of TLABC and is the Chairperson of the Membership Committee. Sonny has successfully argued cases on behalf of his clients in the areas of family law, personal injury and commercial litigation in the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.   

Additionally, Sonny is experienced in real estate litigation, including leasing and builders lien disputes and construction litigation and practices routinely in these areas.

Sonny is also an advocate of alternate dispute resolution procedures.  If the circumstances support an out of court settlement which will save his clients costs, hardship and time, Sonny will expend every effort to provide his clients with the best and most reasonable alternative to a full court proceeding.
